Welcome to Peppermint Week Day 1! We have officially arrived to my favorite of the three Christmas-themed weeks! Ever since I can remember, peppermint has always been my favorite holiday flavor. Even though I enjoy many holiday flavors, it does not feel like the holidays until I get a peppermint hot chocolate and enjoy some of the delicious peppermint treats that the season has to offer.
Today’s peppermint post is all about making a delicious peppermint buttercream. It can be very easy for peppermint to overpower the other elements in a dessert, but this buttercream gives a delightful balance. You can use it when making cakes, cupcakes, and macarons to add a lovely peppermint component to your dessert.
Without further ado, here is how I make Peppermint Buttercream:
Step 1: Cream the Butter
Use either a stand mixer or hand mixer to whip the room-temperature butter on high for approximately 5 minutes, or until the butter becomes light and fluffy.
Step 2: Add the Sifted Powdered Sugar
Sifting your powdered sugar either directly into the mixing bowl or into a separate bowl. Add the sifted powdered sugar to the mixing bowl and mix on a low speed. Once the powdered sugar is incorporated, turn your mixer to a medium-high speed to whip the ingredients together and make a fluffy buttercream, approximately 1-2 minutes.
Step 3: Add Peppermint Extract, Salt, and Milk
Add the peppermint extract, salt, and a small portion of the milk. Mix on a medium speed until well incorporated. Add in more milk, if needed, until you achieve your desired consistency. Turn the mixer to a medium-high speed for an additional minute to ensure that the buttercream is nice and fluffy. Your buttercream is now complete and ready to use on any number of delicious desserts!
These steps are also listed in my printable recipe, listed right here:
