Food processors are incredibly handy tools in the kitchen. From chopping ingredients for a recipe, to pureeing components for a homemade dip or dessert, food processors can be one of the best tools to utilize in your food adventures! That is precisely why I decided to make a list of the top 10 ways in which I use my food processor!
I made a video to go along with this blog post! You can watch it right here:
Disclosure: There are Amazon affiliate links provided in the post below. If you click on any of the Amazon links and make a purchase, I do get a small percentage of the sale which helps me pay for my ingredients and my website. I genuinely use anything that I link, and I want to make it easy for you to find these ingredients and kitchen tools, too, if you want to utilize them!
One of my favorite kitchen tools is my KitchenAid Mini Food Processor! It is compact, so it does not take up a lot of counter space. It is also great for small, quick projects! Here is a link to purchase one on Amazon:
Side Note: This list is in no particular order.
1. Chopping graham crackers, cookies, corn flakes, etc.
This is probably the top way that I personally use my food processor. I chop graham crackers for cheesecake crusts, cream filled chocolate cookies for crusts and mixing into other desserts, and corn flakes for a crunchy topping to a savory baked dish like mac and cheese.
2. Pesto
Pesto is incredibly easy to make with your food processor because you add all of your ingredients and then slowly drizzle the olive oil while pureeing the rest of the mixture.
3. Chopping Nuts
Nuts are such a great ingredient to add to desserts and savory dishes because they have nice flavor and provide a fantastic, crunchy texture. Using a food processor makes it so easy to prep all of your nuts and have them ready to use in any recipe. One of my most recent uses of some chopped pecans was for my Turtle Bread Pudding for Two.
4. Hummus/Black Bean Hummus
I have only made black bean hummus, but it is incredibly easy to make! Simply add all of your ingredients to the food processor, puree until smooth, and enjoy with some veggie sticks and chips.
5. Pureed Fruit
This is another one of the most common ways in which I use my food processor. Pureeing fruit for berry fruit curd, like my Strawberry Curd, as well as my Strawberry Cupcakes or Banana Cake, is so quick and easy thanks to my food processor.
6. Cauliflower Mash
I enjoy using my food processor to make this mashed veggie because it makes it significantly smoother than if I use a potato masher. If you are trying to eat less starchy food, substituting cauliflower for potatoes is great!
7. Chopping Candies or Hard Caramel
I have tried using a plastic bag and rolling pin to crush hard candies into pieces, but the bag would often shred every time and get some candy pieces on the counter. That is why I love using my food processor to chop candies for cakes, cupcakes, hot chocolate bombs, and more!
8. Chopped/Riced Veggies
For my Carrot Cake recipe, I like to use my food processor to chop matchstick carrots into smaller pieces. I have also used my food processor to chop cauliflower into tiny pieces when trying out Tasty’s Cauliflower Pizza Crust recipe.
9. Homemade Pie Crust
If you have ever compared homemade pie crust and store-bought pie crust, you know that there is no competition. Homemade pie crust is not only incredibly good, but it also is very easy to make using a food processor! Simply add the ingredients in a few stages, pulse a few times in between each step, and you have yourself easy, homemade pie crust!
10. Avocado Chocolate Mousse
Avocado chocolate mousse is a ridiculously easy dessert made right in the food processor. Add all of your ingredients to the food processor and you have a creamy, decadent, rich mousse that is also a healthier dessert! The chocolate is the only thing you taste, while the avocado simply provides the smooth, creamy texture. Click here for my Avocado Chocolate Mousse recipe!
