With the start of a new year comes the discussion of what resolutions to make. As I began thinking about my resolutions for the new year and new decade, I decided to look back on the most successful resolution I have ever completed. Last year, I decided to draw inspiration from a previous resolution from my cousin. His completion of the 52 New Dishes Challenge inspired me to try it for myself. I am proud to say that I did indeed successfully complete this challenge and that I made so many wonderful things.
The challenge is a simple one: Make a new dish (or food component) every week, but you cannot do any repeats. I added the “food component” part because I knew that I had multiple dessert components that I wanted to try. While I was not able to make everything on my list, making something new every week made me realize that there are so many foods that are incredibly easy and/or quick to make. Thanks to this challenge, I was able to make many items that I have wanted to try, but had not yet attempted because I thought that it would take too much time or be too complicated to make. While I will not be doing the 52 New Dishes Challenge again this year, it has inspired me to continue to make new dishes and food components on a regular basis.
52 New Dishes is a wonderful New Year resolution that will surely expand your skills in the kitchen. Whether you prefer baking, cooking, or both, the options of what you will make are practically limitless. This resolution is great for anyone to try, but I think it would be especially great for families. This challenge could be a great bonding activity that gets kids introduced to the kitchen and will hopefully get them excited about making new things.
